What You Need to Know
New Provincial Safety Inspection Information
The Ontario government changed vehicle safety inspections in late 2024. MTC Tire Oakville is a registered DriveON vehicle inspection centre licensed by the MTO — only legitimate, registered shops can issue Safety Standards Certificates.
When Do You Need a Certificate?
You need a Safety Standards Certificate when: registering a rebuilt vehicle; transferring a used vehicle to a new owner (unless the new owner is your spouse); registering a vehicle in Ontario from another province, territory, or country; or changing a vehicle’s status from unfit to fit.
What to Expect
When you bring in your vehicle, we use government-regulated inspection criteria to determine if your vehicle meets minimum safety standards. The inspection is now conducted through the official DriveON portal with the Government of Ontario.
Booking Your Inspection
We’ll usually need your vehicle for the day to conduct a provincial safety inspection. A safety standards certificate is valid for 36 calendar days after the inspection. Call us to book your appointment.
